Spending Plan Training Options

Video Training Program

I am in process of creating a training program to walk you through the process of creating your spending plan and maintaining it.

My expertise lies in helping compulsive spenders overcome the fear of looking at their numbers, creating the foundation for their spending plan, and providing technical help to teach them how to use spending plan software.

A spending plan is a vital component of recovery from compulsive spending. But if you feel lost about what is involved with creating and maintaining an effective spending plan, I can assist you. [Click here for a note to Debtors Anonymous members.]

There are many options for developing and maintaining a spending plan. But some people are intimidated by technology, and filled with anxiety about working with numbers. Without help, they may become overwhelmed and paralyzed, which keeps them from moving forward.

I’m offering a FREE, no obligation, 15 minute phone or Skype call to determine if I can help you achieve your spending plan goals. (Click here to set up your call now.)

My Qualifications

I’m Susan B., creator of the “Getting Out from Going Under” blog. You can read about my own recovery journey here. Since 2012, I’ve been working with recovering compulsive spenders to:

  1. Help them overcome their fear around numbers and using a spending plan,
  2. Assist them in understanding the core concepts for maintaining a reliable spending plan,
  3. Teach them the necessary steps to put those concepts into practice, and
  4. Figure out what information they need to begin getting clarity around their numbers.

I will teach you how to:

  • Set up categories and accrue month to month
  • Master your chosen software to maintain your spending plan
  • Reconcile with your bank account to ensure your spending plan is accurate
Note: I will never ask you for your private banking information!

“Susan helped me so much with my spending plan! A year ago, I started out being overwhelmed and confused about the whole process. She patiently helped talk me thru how to set up YNAB and divide my spending into logical categories. Plus, she helped guide me thru unusual transactions that I just couldn’t figure out. When I had trouble reconciling my bank account with my spending plan, she taught me how to find my errors. Susan was incredibly patient and knowledgeable about this whole process! I would have given up without her expert help!”

My Preferred Spending Plan Software is YNAB

I have found that YNAB is the best spending plan software for those in recovery from compulsive spending because it behaves as a virtual envelope system. [Note: I do not receive any compensation from YNAB.]

I encourage everyone considering YNAB to take their free online classes. For many people, this is all they need.

YNAB is free for 34 days to give people an opportunity to try it out. I always suggest that people sign up when they have the time to take the classes. That will give them the opportunity to know if they need additional assistance before the trial period is up. Though not everyone finds YNAB is the right choice for them, nearly everyone I’ve worked with ended up loving YNAB and sticking with it.

Help with Excel Spreadsheets

Some people prefer to use an Excel spreadsheet to manage their spending plan. I am willing to consider helping those who are using an Excel spreadsheet learn how to do the calculations necessary to maintain it. However, I will first need to see the spreadsheet to determine if I can be of assistance.

Who Can Benefit from My Services

There are two types of people who will find my services helpful:

  1. Those who have found the classes overwhelm them with too much information, and want someone to walk them, step-by-step, through how to use the software with just the functions they need and working with their actual numbers.
  2. Those who are already using YNAB or Excel, but discover issues that they just can’t figure out on their own. They want one-on-one help with unraveling the problems.

[Note: if using YNAB, you can always email the YNAB support team once you have a trial or paid account. Plus, you can always ask questions in the YNAB user forum]

First, Take a Class

Even if you think you would prefer individual support, I strongly encourage people who use an Excel spreadsheet to take an Excel class. You can often find free classes at the library. And again, I urge those who try YNAB to first go to all the free YNAB online classes. There is also a vibrant YNAB community available to provide support (you will need to create a user account for the forum). My services are not a replacement for such classes, but for those who desire more personalized assistance after having taken these classes.

“I tried learning the software on my own twice, even took a couple of tutorials, but nothing seemed to add up accurately. I was about to give up for good when Susan stepped in to help. She was able to help me see my mistakes. She coached me on the importance of entering my numbers in the correct categories promptly and reconciling with my bank statement every day or two. She helped me set up new categories for more clarity on expenditures that had been falling through the cracks. It took two meetings for me to be confident working independently. Now, I track my income, spending, and savings. I am living within in my income and am able to save for my current and future needs. I would not have the freedom and prosperity I have today if Susan had not helped me. I am so much happier with my financial life.”

How to Set Up Your Free Call

If you would like to set up a free 15 minute call to discuss how I can help you, please fill in this form. Be sure to describe your issues and what services you need. I will get back to you to set up a time for us to speak.

Note to Debtors Anonymous members: These services do not take the place of having a pressure relief group (PRG). A PRG is designed to help you develop your spending plan categories and allocate your money. The services I offer bridge the gap between the direction to bring your numbers to a pressure relief group and figuring out how to do so. My services will also give you mastery over your spending plan software, show you how to maintain the spending plan you develop with your PRG team on a day-to-day basis, and teach you how to ensure that your numbers accurately reflect what your bank account shows.
